Where the birds nest

It has been 20 years since the island Herdla became a nature reserve. More than 200 species of birds has been sighted on the island, which is almost completely flat. Its become one of the most important stops for the waders and the shallow waters surrounding the island makes for rich feeding grounds.

But the island is also in the centre of streams from the fjords, carrying plastic from all corners, threatening the massive bird life. Last winter, a small group of people gathered at Herdla, collecting garbage. Their voluntary work would grow to be nationally known in the coming months.
